Meaning & Inspiration
“Wewe ni Mungu” by Essence of Worship is a Swahili worship song that declares who God is. The opening lines say, “You are God, Your name is Lord,” and add that He is Lord of lords, who endures and reigns. The word “Unastahili,” meaning “You are worthy,” is repeated, with “Bwana, Bwana” sung between lines.
The later section names what belongs to God: power is Yours, authority is Yours. It goes on to say that He reigns forever and that He is clothed with honor. The lyric is a chain of short statements, so each repetition adds one more title or attribute.
The lines are close to Psalm 93:1, Revelation 5:12 and 1 Timothy 6:15-16, on the Lord reigning clothed in majesty, the Lamb being worthy of power and honor, and God as King of kings and Lord of lords. The song has no story, only adoration, and the repeated lines suit a congregation singing with a leader.
