Meaning & Inspiration
“Umeketi (You Are Seated)” by Dr Ipyana is a Swahili worship song that gives glory to Jesus alone. The opening refrain, “Wastahili utukufu,” means You are worthy of glory, and the next line says that only Jesus is worthy of that glory.
The verse adds the reason: “Umeketi kwenye enzi yote,” meaning You are seated on the whole throne. It is repeated, then followed again by the declaration that Jesus alone deserves glory. The picture is of Christ reigning, with nothing sharing His place.
The imagery is close to Revelation 4:2 and 5:12-13, where the throne is the center of heaven and the Lamb is called worthy to receive glory. It also recalls Hebrews 1:3, which describes Christ seated at the right hand of the Majesty on high. The lyric is brief and built on repetition, so it suits a congregation that wants to stay in one thought of adoration rather than follow a story.
