Chorus

Nimekuja mbele zako ili nikushukuru
Wewe ndiwe kila kitu kwangu mimi nakushukuru
Nimekuja mbele zako ili nikushukuru
Wewe ndiwe kila kitu kwangu mimi nakushukuru
Nimekuja mbele zako ili nikushukuru
Wewe ndiwe kila kitu kwangu mimi nakushukuru

Verse 1

Ninakushukuru kwa yale uliyoyafanya jana
Ninakushukuru kwa yale unayafanya leo
Ninakushukuru kwa yale utakayoyafanya kesho
Maana miaka yangu dunia imehesabiwa na wewe
(repeat)

Verse 2

Asante kwa mawazo mazuri kwangu
Yananipa tumaini siku ya mwisho
(repeat)

Verse 3

Ningeamka asubuhi bila wewe Mungu wangu
Pale nilipolala usingizi huku nikikata tamaa
Ukaituma hekima kwa siri moyoni mwangu
Ukanikumbusha agano na uaminifu wako
Ukautuma wimbo wa sifa moyoni mwangu
Ili nikusifu na kukushukuru

Verse 1

Ninakushukuru kwa yale uliyoyafanya jana
Ninakushukuru kwa yale unayafanya leo
Ninakushukuru kwa yale utakayoyafanya kesho
Maana miaka yangu dunia imehesabiwa na wewe
(repeat)

Outro

Asante Bwana kwa wema na fadhili zinazodumu milele
Asante Bwana kwa wema na fadhili zinazodumu milele
Asante Bwana kwa wema na fadhili zinazodumu milele

Meaning & Inspiration

Ninakushukuru is a Swahili song of thanksgiving. The refrain says the singer has come before the Lord to give thanks because He is everything, and the verse thanks Him for what He did yesterday, does today and will do tomorrow, since the years of life are counted by Him. A second section thanks Him for good thoughts that give hope on the last day.

A longer verse imagines waking up without Him, sleeping in discouragement, and then His sending wisdom secretly into the heart, reminding of His covenant and faithfulness and putting a song of praise in the heart. The ending thanks the Lord for goodness and kindness that endure forever. The themes follow Psalm 100:4, Psalm 90:12 and 139:16 on days being numbered, Jeremiah 29:11, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and Psalm 136:1. The repeated thanks and plain wording make the song a gentle act of gratitude.
