Lyrics
[Verse]
I hear the bells of heaven calling
Though many miles remain to go
The savior walks beside his children
His faithful love I've come to know
Each morning brings its tender mercies
Each evening finds his grace the same
The path is right beneath his promise
For I am sheltered in his name
[Chorus]
Nearer every day to Jesus
Nearer to his loving side
He will never leave nor fail me
He will be my faithful guide
[Verse]
Still I cross that shining river
Where the saints rejoice and pray
I'll keep singing of his goodness
Growing nearer every day
The world may change like drifting shadows
Its treasures fade like autumn leaves
But Christ remains my rock forever
The one in whom my soul believes
[Verse]
His word has been my lamp in darkness
His peace has calmed the raging sea
And every step along life's journey
His mighty hand has carried me
[Chorus]
When my eyes behold his glory
And I hear the angels sing
Every tear will turn to rejoicing
Every heart his praise will bring
[Verse]
That I'll kneel before my savior
Safe within his endless grace
And forever I will worship
Looking on his glorious face
[Chorus]
Nearer every day to Jesus
Nearer to my heavenly home
Though this pilgrim road grows weary
I shall never walk alone
Soon I'll cross that shining river
Where my faith will turn to sight
Where I'll praise my blessed savior
In his everlasting light
[Outro]
Nearer every day to Jesus
My Lord, forever
