Carrie Underwood is a Christian music artist who rose to prominence as a country singer after winning the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. She was born Carrie Marie Underwood on March 10, 1983, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and grew up attending the First Free Will Baptist Church in Checotah, Oklahoma, where she began singing at a young age.
Underwood launched her recording career with the debut album Some Hearts (2005), which became the best-selling debut album by a solo female country artist. Early in her career, she recorded faith-rooted songs such as “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” which earned her a Gospel Music Association Dove Award for Country Recorded Song of the Year in 2006. She has been outspoken about her Christian faith throughout her career, and songs like “Something in the Water” further reflected her spiritual convictions.
In 2020, Underwood released the Christmas album My Gift, and the following year she released her first dedicated gospel album, My Savior (2021).
