Mark Crowder - Anything Can Happen Lyrics + Chords
Released: 26 Mar 2021
Lyrics
With lifted hands
We're ready for a brand new demonstration of Your power
We want more than stories
But we're declaring and believing for it now
We'll prepare the atmosphere
So you can be welcome here
Anything can happen
Anything can happen
Anything can happen
The moment that you walk in
With lifted hands
We're ready for a brand new demonstration of Your power
We want more than stories
We're declaring and believing for it now
We ll prepare the atmosphere
So you can be welcome here
We ll pursue You without fear
Until every chain is broken
And victory is here
Anything can happen
Anything can happen
Anything can happen
The moment that you walk in
We declare Your glory
We declare Your healing
We declare your power
Here
Now

Meaning & Inspiration
I’ve been sitting here thinking about those lines, “We’ll prepare the atmosphere so you can be welcome here.” It’s catchier than most things I hear on the radio, but it keeps tripping me up. I get the idea of wanting to be ready for God, like how the prophets were told to prepare the way, but part of me wonders if we actually hold that much sway over His presence. Like, does the Holy Spirit really wait for us to set the room right before He decides to show up? It feels a bit like we’re trying to build a cage for a wild fire, though I know the intent is just to be intentional about worship.
There’s this heavy focus on "declaring and believing" that makes me think of the way Jesus talked about faith moving mountains. I want to believe that, I really do. But it also makes me nervous. When the song says “anything can happen” once He walks in, I start thinking about the book of Acts where the ground actually shook. It’s wild and messy. But then I have to ask myself if I’m just looking for a spectacle, or if I’m actually looking for the God who saves. I keep thinking about how the lyrics focus so much on a "brand new demonstration." Is that what we’re lacking, or are we just forgetting what He already did at the cross?
It’s easy to get caught up in the energy of it, the feeling that if we just push hard enough in our worship, the chains will have to break right then and there. It sounds like freedom, and maybe that’s the point. But I guess I keep wrestling with whether we’re expecting God to move because we’ve invited Him, or because He’s sovereign and does exactly what He wants regardless of the atmosphere we’ve manufactured. It’s hard to tell if I’m waiting on Him or if I’m just trying to convince myself He’s about to change everything.
