About Crystal Lewis
Crystal Lynn Lewis, widely recognized as a contemporary Christian and gospel singer and songwriter, was born on September 11, 1969, in Corona, California. She began her career as a teenager, first performing in the musical review Hi-Tops and later joining the Christian rockabilly band Wild Blue Yonder. In 1987 she released her debut solo album, Beyond the Charade, establishing herself as a solo artist in the Christian music scene.
In the following years, Lewis expanded her reach beyond traditional Christian music. She served as a cast member and theme song vocalist for the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series Roundhouse, and in 1992 she founded her own record label, Metro 1 Music. Her album Beauty for Ashes (1996) was certified Gold by the RIAA, and she went on to release numerous albums spanning contemporary Christian, gospel, and jazz genres, including several Spanish-language recordings such as La Belleza de la Cruz and Oro.
Lewis has collaborated with an array of notable artists, including Kirk Franklin, Bono, Mary J. Blige, and Tori Kelly. Her work has earned multiple GMA Dove Awards: Female Vocalist of the Year (1998), Spanish-Language Album of the Year for La Belleza de la Cruz (1998) and for Oro (1999), and Special Event Album for Exodus (1998). She also received Grammy Award nominations for Best R&B Group Performance for "Lean on Me" (1999) and for Best Christian Pop Album for Fearless (2000). Her catalog includes albums such as Let Love In (1990), The Bride (1993), Hymns: My Life (1995), Gold (1998), Fearless (2000), Rhapsody (2019), and Together We Can (2022).
