Meaning & Inspiration
“Sijasahau” by Jeremy Jeradi is a Swahili song of remembrance. The title means “I have not forgotten,” and the chorus says, “Sijasahau Baba, umbali umenitoa,” I have not forgotten, Father, how far You have brought me. It adds that without Jesus the singer would not be standing.
The verse gives the reason: with eyes of mercy, Jesus looked at the singer, healed the wounds, and drew away the tears. That wording is close to Psalm 147:3, which says God heals the brokenhearted, and to Psalm 56:8, which pictures God keeping count of tears. The third verse recalls that when enemies rose up, it was the Lord who raised the singer.
The lyric returns to the chorus several times, which gives it the feel of a testimony sung again and again. It recalls Psalm 103:2, “forget not all His benefits.” The message is that gratitude begins with remembering how far the Lord has brought a person.
