Meaning & Inspiration
We Will Rise is a declaration song about taking a stand for the kingdom of God. The first verse says the people will rise to take a nation and land and stand, adding that the fight is not against flesh and blood, but a battle to be won. The chorus cries for liberty, justice, righteousness, peace and freedom from oppression, and proclaims "Thy kingdom come."
The second verse says the promise, power, majesty and strength have been seen in His Name, and that the kingdom and the glory of His throne will be seen. The imagery draws on Ephesians 6:12 on spiritual battle, Matthew 6:10 on the coming kingdom, Isaiah 61:1 on liberty for captives and Romans 8:37 on overcoming. The wording is bold and repetitive, a rallying call suited to corporate worship with a focus on prayer and proclamation for the nation.
