Meaning & Inspiration
“All I Need Is You Lord” by Hillsong UNITED is a worship song about leaving fear behind and finding all that is needed in God. The first verse says that the singer left fear by the side of the road, heard God speak, fell to their knees, and lifted their hands to pray, with the one desire of seeing a glimpse of Him. The chorus condenses this into one sentence: “All I need is You.”
The second verse describes being drawn back to the voice of the Savior and asks where the soul would be without His Son, who gave His life to save the earth. It then rests in the thought that God is watching over the singer, which is close to Psalm 121:3-5, where the Keeper does not slumber.
The bridge repeats “You hold the universe, You hold everyone on earth,” an image close to Colossians 1:17, which says that in Christ all things hold together. The same confession is also close to Psalm 73:25, where nothing on earth is desired besides God. The song’s message is simple trust in the One who holds everything.
