Verse 1
Here in this house of the great king
We come together now to worship him
This house is built on Christ our rock
Cannot be shaken
Cannot be shaken
Pre-Chorus
God is awesome in this place
Sense his presence as we sing his praise
There is power here for a miracle
Set the captives free, make the broken whole
Chorus
God is awesome
He's so awesome
God is awesome in this place
Bridge
I've found where I belong
I'm a living stone
In this house
I will grow

There is power here for a miracle
Set the captives free and the broken whole

God is awesome
He's so awesome
He's so awesome
He's so awesome
God is awesome in this place

Meaning & Inspiration
Awesome In This Place celebrates the presence of God among His gathered people. The opening lines picture a house of the great king where believers come together to worship Him, built on Christ the rock and therefore unshakable. The song claims power for a miracle there, setting captives free and making the broken whole.
A short bridge turns personal, with the singer saying that this is where they belong and describing themselves as a living stone who will grow in the house. The imagery draws on Matthew 7:24-25 for the house on the rock and 1 Peter 2:5 for living stones, while the line about freeing captives echoes Isaiah 61:1 and Luke 4:18. The repeated refrain "God is awesome in this place" keeps the focus on God's greatness rather than on the room itself. The wording is simple and the repetition suits congregational singing, giving a group an easy way to affirm that His presence is real and strengthening.
