Hawk Nelson - Sold Out Lyrics
Lyrics
I ain't like no one you met before
I'm running for the front
When they're all running for the door
And I won't sit down
Won't back out
You can't ever shut me up, 'cause
I'm on a mission and I won't quit now
In a world full of followers, I'll be a leader
In a world full of doubters, I'll be a believer
I'm stepping out without a hesitation
Because the battle's already been won
I'm sold out
I'm no longer living just for myself
Running after Jesus with my whole heart
And now I'm ready to show
I am sold out!
I'm sold out
With every single step that I take now
With every drop of blood left in my veins I'm
Gonna be making it count
I am sold out!
This ain't just some temporary phase
You can't face
This kind of grace
And leave the way you came
This is permanent
With intent
And there won't be no stoppin' it now
I'm on a mission and it's heaven-sent
In a world full of followers, I'll be a leader
In a world full of doubters, I'll be a believer
I'm stepping out without a hesitation
'Cause my soul is like a stadium
And I'm sold out
I'm no longer living just for myself
Running after Jesus with my whole heart
And now I'm ready to show
I am sold out!
I'm sold out
With every single step that I take now
With every drop of blood left in my veins I'm
Gonna be making it count
I am sold out!
No trials coming against me
Can put a dent in my passion
They're just an opportunity
To put my faith into action
In a world full of followers, I'll be a leader
In a world full of doubters, I'll be a believer
I'm stepping out without a hesitation
I ain't got nothing left to be afraid of
I'm sold out
I'm no longer living just for myself
Running after Jesus with my whole heart
And now I'm ready to show
I am sold out!
I'm sold out
With every single step that I take now
With every drop of blood left in my veins I'm
Gonna be making it count
I am sold out!

Meaning & Inspiration
I’ve been listening to this track from Hawk Nelson's 2015 album Diamonds, and it hits that nerve about what it actually costs to follow Jesus. When they sing about not living for themselves anymore, it pulls me right back to Paul talking about being crucified with Christ and no longer living for his own interests. It feels real when they mention that the battle is already won, because that’s the victory we’re supposed to stand on, right? But then I get a little stuck on the way they talk about passion not having a dent put in it by trials. It sounds bold, and I want that kind of confidence, but I keep thinking about how the apostles actually suffered and struggled. They didn’t always seem so invincible or like they were constantly "making it count" in a loud, public way.
Sometimes I wonder if we equate being "sold out" with just being busy or loud for God. There’s a line about the soul being like a stadium, which is a wild image, but it makes me question if my own dedication is actually that performative. The Bible talks a lot about dying to self, but that usually happens in quiet, hidden ways, not just in running to the front of the room. It’s hard to tell if this is capturing the radical surrender of the Gospel or if it’s leaning too much into a human-centered kind of hype. When they say they’re stepping out without hesitation, part of me feels pumped up, but another part wonders if that’s just ignoring the reality of the fear and trembling that often comes with working out your own salvation. I’m just not sure if our "sold out" status is something we generate through sheer force of will or if it’s something that happens to us when we finally stop trying to lead and just follow. It’s definitely a high-energy song, but I’m left wondering if the "permanent" nature of that commitment is something I can actually claim on my own, or if I’m just convincing myself I’m stronger than I really am.
