NewSong is an American contemporary Christian music group that began in 1981 at Morningside Baptist Church in Valdosta, Georgia. Founding members Eddie Carswell and Billy Goodwin helped shape the band into a fixture of the contemporary Christian music scene for decades to come.
The group is perhaps best known for founding the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular in 1995, an annual multi-artist concert tour that has become a major event in Christian music. NewSong has also supported humanitarian organizations including World Vision and Holt International, reflecting a ministry-oriented approach that has marked their career.
NewSong’s catalog includes songs such as “Arise, My Love,” “Rescue,” “The Same God,” “Can’t Keep A Good Man Down,” “Jesus To The World (Roaring Lambs),” and “Glory All Around.” Their single “The Christmas Shoes” became a crossover success, reaching the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. The song also anchored the album The Christmas Shoes, which earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2003 for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album, and later inspired The Christmas Shoes Musical, which received a GMA Dove Award for Musical of the Year.
In recognition of their contributions to Georgia’s music heritage, NewSong was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2005.
