About Matthew West
Matthew West was born on April 25, 1977, in Downers Grove, Illinois, and grew up to become a contemporary Christian singer-songwriter and author. He attended Millikin University on a four-year scholarship before pursuing a full-time music career. West’s recorded catalog includes studio albums such as Happy (2003), Something to Say (2008), and My Story Your Glory (2023), and his songs include “More,” “The Motions,” “Hello, My Name Is,” “The God Who Stays,” “Truth Be Told,” “Broken Things,” “Don’t Stop Praying,” and “Good.”
Beyond his own recordings, West has written songs for a range of artists, including Casting Crowns, Rascal Flatts, and Amy Grant. His work as a songwriter has earned him multiple GMA Dove Awards and a 2013 American Music Award for Best Contemporary Inspirational Artist. He is a five-time Grammy Award nominee and has received RIAA Gold and Platinum certifications. In 2023 he was honored with ASCAP’s Golden Note Award, and he has been named Billboard’s Hot Christian Songwriter of the Year.
