Meaning & Inspiration
“Vita Vizuri” (Nimevipiga Vita Vizuri), by Reuben Kigame with Sifa Voices, is a Swahili song of perseverance. The chorus declares, “Nimevipiga vita vizuri, mwendo wangu nimeumaliza, nayo imani nimeilinda” (I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith), and adds the hope of receiving a crown from the Lord. The words closely follow 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
The first verse looks back without regret, having learned to forget what is behind and press toward what is ahead, which recalls Philippians 3:13-14. The second admits that faith has been shaken but says the singer is held by Jesus, even if friends leave, because Immanuel is present.
The last verse turns outward, calling others to follow as the singer follows Jesus, who is called the beginning and end of faith, echoing Hebrews 12:2. It warns against being drawn by a passing world and ends by urging all to fight the good fight.
