Lyrics
Verse 1
Find me in the darkness
Where I call home
Speak into the night wind
So I feel it in my bones
Been chasing after false gods
Reaping what I've sown
Crawling through some hard knocks
Abandoned and alone
Pre-Chorus
No more
No more
Chorus
An exile
Gave up my pride
I've been so blind
No more, no more
I am Yours
And You are mine
Let hope unwind
No more, no more
An exile
No more
No more
Verse 2
I thought that I could hide away
This pain that's built in
I thought I was the hero
But I was wearing thin
My heart was like a wildfire
My troubles like the wind
In a chronic state of holy war
That I could never win
Pre-Chorus
No more
No more
Chorus
An exile
Gave up my pride
I've been so blind
No more, no more
I am Yours
And You are mine
Let hope unwind
No more, no more
An exile
No more
No more
Bridge
Oh, You knew my heart was bleeding
My barren soul was torn
My mind was full of thorns
Oh, I see the horizon clearly
It's calling me ashore
And now I'm no more
Chorus
An exile
Gave up my pride
I've been so blind
No more, no more
I am Yours
And You are mine
Let hope unwind
No more, no more
An exile
No more
No more
An exile
No more
No more

Meaning & Inspiration
"Exile" describes a person who has been far from God and is ready to be done with that distance. The first verse begins in darkness, "Find me in the darkness / Where I call home," and admits "Been chasing after false gods / Reaping what I've sown." The second verse recalls trying to hide pain, thinking of oneself as "the hero" and living "In a chronic state of holy war / That I could never win."
The refrain's repeated "No more" marks a turning point: "Gave up my pride," "I've been so blind," then "I am Yours / And You are mine." The bridge pictures a heart that was "bleeding" and a soul "torn," and a horizon "calling me ashore." The word exile in the title names the condition being left behind rather than the place the song arrives at.
The ideas of reaping what is sown and belonging to God resemble Galatians 6:7 and Isaiah 43:1.
