Lyrics

Verse 1

Is it ok to say
I'm a little afraid
I think I've lost my faith
Out in the wind and waves
So I'm calling Your name
Please don't let me go

Verse 2

Nights closing in
Strength's wearing thin
I'm in over my head
This is an SOS
So I'm calling Your name
Please don't let me go

Interlude

Oh

Chorus

Yahweh
Yahweh
Can You hear me?
Calling Your name
Yahweh
Oh, Yahweh
Please don't let me go

Verse 3

I'm somewhere in-between
Faith and unbelief
I've seen You do miracles
But this looks impossible

Pre-Chorus

So I'm calling Your name
Cause I need You to -
Pick me up and put me back together again
Cause I'm sinking down further now than I've ever been
Over the raging storm and the roaring wind
I'm calling, calling, calling

Chorus

Oh, Yahweh
Yahweh (Yahweh)
Can You hear me?
Oh, Calling Your name
Yahweh
Oh, Yahweh

Bridge

God I know who You are and I've seen what You can do
So whatever may come I'll fix my eyes on You
So I'm calling Your name with my hands held high
Cause calling Your name is my battle cry

Chorus

Oh, Yahweh
Yahweh
Oh, Yahweh
Please don't let me go
Please don't let me go
Cause I can't do this alone
Savior of my soul
Please don't let me go

Outro

Oh
Please don't let me go
Don't let me go
Oh
I know You won't let me go.

Meaning & Inspiration

"SOS (Don't Let Me Go)" is a prayer prayed from inside doubt. It begins with an honest question, "Is it ok to say / I'm a little afraid," and admits "I think I've lost my faith / Out in the wind and waves." The song then describes standing "somewhere in-between / Faith and unbelief," remembering that miracles have been seen while the present situation "looks impossible."

The refrain calls on God by the name "Yahweh" and asks, "Can You hear me?" while the plea "Please don't let me go" repeats until it becomes the whole petition. The later lines move from sinking "further now than I've ever been" toward a decision to "fix my eyes on You," with calling on God's name described as a "battle cry." The final line settles into trust: "I know You won't let me go."

The imagery of wind, waves and sinking is close to Peter's cry when he began to sink (Matthew 14:30), and the admission of faith mixed with unbelief resembles the father's prayer in Mark 9:24. Both connections come from the wording rather than from anything stated in the song.

Related Scripture

  • Matthew 14:30 Peter begins to sink and cries out to be saved, matching the sinking and calling on God's name in the song.
  • Mark 9:24 A father prays to believe and asks for help with unbelief, matching "Faith and unbelief."
