Meaning & Inspiration
“Fill Me Up God - Overflow” joins two worship songs, “Fill Me Up” and “Overflow,” into one extended prayer. It opens with a call to let worship be released and then offers an exchange: “You provide the fire, I’ll provide the sacrifice. You provide the spirit, and I will open up inside.” The singer’s part is openness and surrender, while the fire and the Spirit are left to God.
The chorus is a plain, repeated petition, “Fill me up God,” followed by “We need more of you,” which moves the request from one person to the gathered congregation. The second half turns to the image of overflow: “Fill me up ’till I overflow, I wanna run over.” The picture is of a life so full that it spills past the singer. That language is close to Psalm 23:5, “my cup runneth over,” and to Ephesians 5:18, which urges being filled with the Spirit.
