Lyrics
Chorus
I have Confidence in You, Jesus
I have Confidence in You, Savior
I have Confidence in You
Any time, anywhere
I have Confidence in You
When everybody let me down
When everybody let me down
Verse 1
I heard about Abraham
You never let him down
I heard about Shadrach
Meshach and Abednego
You never let them down
And I heard about Daniel
In the Lion’s Den, you showed up
After ninety years of Sarah barren
You gave her a Son
You gave her a Son
Verse 2
What about David, he said
In sin did my Mother conceive me
But you made him a King
Moving him from Wilderness
To the Palace
You pick messes
And you make it a Message
You always take trashes
And turn the into Treasures
Pre-Chorus
Who am I, who am I
To doubt who you are
And Who am I, who am I
To doubt who you are
All I gotta do is this
Chorus (Repeat)
I have Confidence in You, Jesus
I have Confidence in You, Savior
I have Confidence in You
Any time, anywhere
I have Confidence in You, Jehovah
Bridge
Jehovah, Jehovah
Jehovah, Jehovah
Jehovah, Jehovah
Jehovah, Jehovah
Emmanuel, Emmanuel
Emmanuel, Emmanuel
Emmanuel, Emmanuel
Emmanuel, Emmanuel
Jehovah, Jehovah
Jehovah, Jehovah
Jehovah, Jehovah
Jehovah, Jehovah
Chorus (Repeat)
I have Confidence in You, Jesus
I have Confidence in You, Savior
I have Confidence in You,
Any time, anywhere
I have Confidence in You, Jehovah

Meaning & Inspiration
“My Confidence” by Sonnie Badu is a song of trust built on examples from Scripture. The refrain, “I have confidence in You, Jesus,” is offered for any time and anywhere, especially when everybody lets the singer down. The verses then recall people God did not abandon: Abraham, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and Daniel in the lion’s den, where the Lord “showed up.”
The lyric also remembers Sarah, who was barren and received a son, and David, who confessed that he was conceived in sin yet was made a king. These pictures are close to Genesis 21:1-2, Daniel 3:25, and Psalm 51:5. The line “You pick messes and you make it a message” and the pairing of trash and treasure gather them into one claim about how God works with broken things.
The question “Who am I to doubt who You are?” leads into a long section calling on Jehovah and Emmanuel, then closes with “Oh Baba, my confidence is in You.” The song’s message is trust that rests on God’s record.
