About Sonnie Badu
Sonnie Badu is a Ghanaian-born gospel singer, songwriter, and pastor who has built an international ministry from his base in the United States. Often referred to as “The Worshipper” or the “Apostle of Worship,” he began his musical career at a young age under the influence of his father, a preacher. Badu is the founder and lead pastor of RockHill Church in Atlanta, Georgia. He holds multiple academic degrees, including a PhD in Theology and a Doctorate of Divinity, and serves as a UN Ambassador of Sacred Music.
Badu’s recorded catalog includes songs such as “Covenant Keeping God,” “Wonder God,” “Hymns Review,” and “My Soul Says Yes.” He has released albums including “Lost in His Glory” and “Colours of Africa.” Beyond recording, he has organized charity concerts under the banner “Africa Worships with Sonnie Badu.”
His contributions to gospel music have been recognized with several awards. In 2009, he won Best Gospel Artist in Europe, Best Worship Artist of the Year, and Best Worship Song at the Gospel Music Awards Italy, as well as Best Gospel Male at the British Gospel Music Awards and Best Gospel Artist at the BEFFTA Awards. The following year, he received Best Musician at the GUBA Awards and Best Gospel Artist at the African Music Awards. In 2012, the Africa Gospel Music Awards honored him with Album of the Year and the Trailblazer Award. Badu has also received the keys to the cities of Brooklyn, New York, and Brentwood, Maryland. In 2018, the State of Georgia granted him Honorary Georgia Citizenship, along with the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award and a Humanitarian Award.
