Meaning & Inspiration
“Trust Me” by Richard Smallwood is written in the voice of God speaking to a believer. Each short section repeats a promise three times, “I will be with you,” “I’ll never leave you,” “I’ll fight your battle,” and answers it with the same condition: “If you will only trust Me, trust Me, trust Me.” The pattern turns reassurance into an invitation, so that every comfort comes with a call to rely on the Speaker.
The closing lines add a statement of identity and power: “I am that I am, I have all power, I will deliver.” That phrase recalls the divine name in Exodus 3:14 and rests the promises on God’s own authority rather than the singer’s strength.
The promises are close to Isaiah 41:10 on God being with His people, Hebrews 13:5 on never leaving or forsaking, and Exodus 14:14 on the Lord fighting for them. The song is brief and direct, built on repetition so the message can be remembered and sung back.
