Amy Lee Grant was born on November 25, 1960, in Augusta, Georgia. She began her music career as a teenager, releasing her self-titled debut album in 1977 on the Christian label Word Records. Known as "The Queen of Christian Pop," Grant was the first Contemporary Christian artist to have a platinum-certified album. Her early album Age to Age (1982) featured songs including "El Shaddai," "Father's Eyes," and "Angels," which helped secure her place in Christian music.
In the mid-1980s, Grant began a successful crossover into mainstream pop. She recorded the duet "The Next Time I Fall" with Peter Cetera and later released the album Heart in Motion (1991), which included the hit single "Baby Baby." She has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Her later work includes the album How Mercy Looks from Here (2013).
Grant has won six Grammy Awards and more than twenty Gospel Music Association Dove Awards. She was the first solo Christian artist to earn a gold-certified album in 1983 and a platinum-certified album in 1985. In 2001, the RIAA named "El Shaddai" one of the "Songs of the Century." She has been married to country music singer Vince Gill since 2000. Grant received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006 and was honored with the Kennedy Center Honors in 2022.
