Meaning & Inspiration

Yeshua Hamashiach (Lion of Judah) is built almost entirely from one declaration, repeated first in smaller groupings and then in long unbroken runs by the end of the recording. The title names Jesus two ways: Yeshua Hamashiach, Jesus the Messiah, and Lion of Judah, joining a Hebrew title to a prophetic image from the Hebrew Scriptures in the same breath.

"Lion of Judah" comes from Revelation 5:5, where Jesus is named the Lion of the tribe of Judah at the moment he alone is found worthy to open the sealed scroll. Nathaniel Bassey's arrangement treats that title as something to be shouted rather than explained, instructing the congregation directly: "give him a shout of praise."

By the final repetitions, marked to repeat up to twelve times, the song stops adding new lines altogether. The declaration becomes the entire content, functioning closer to a corporate acclamation than a narrated song, repetition as the primary form the praise takes rather than a chorus between verses.
