Meaning & Inspiration
“The Only God” by Mairo Ese is a worship song built on one declaration: “I will declare You are the only God, the only God I know.” The refrain is repeated many times, with short answers sung in between, such as “Yes You are” and “I will declare.”
The verses give reasons for the claim. God is called the God of the universe and the creator of everything, worthy of all praise, the one who can heal and deliver, and the lifter of the singer’s head. He is also named as the one who loved the singer when she did not care, who conquered sin and death, and who is alive forevermore. These lines recall Psalm 3:3 and Revelation 1:18.
The bridge breaks into Hallelujah, with the note that every knee shall bow, close to Philippians 2:10. A later section says that in God the singer makes her boast and moves and has her being, close to Acts 17:28, and that He sustains the universe.
