Lyrics
Verse 1
You are not hidden
There’s never been a moment
You were forgotten
You are not hopeless
Though you have been broken
Your innocence stolen
Chorus
I hear you whisper underneath your breath
I hear your SOS, your SOS
I will send out an army
To find you in the middle of darkest night
It’s true
I will rescue you
Verse 2
There is no distance
That cannot be covered
Over and over
You’re not defenseless
I’ll be your shelter
I’ll be your armor
Chorus
I hear you whisper underneath your breath
I hear your SOS, your SOS
I will send out an army
To find you in the middle of darkest night
It’s true
I will rescue you
Bridge
I will never stop marching
To reach you in the middle of the hardest fight
It’s true
I will rescue you
Chorus
I hear the whisper underneath your breath
I hear you whisper you have nothing left
I will send out an army
To find you in the middle of darkest night
It’s true
I will rescue you
I Will rescue you

Meaning & Inspiration
“Rescue” by Lauren Daigle speaks to someone who feels forgotten, hopeless, and broken. The verses tell the listener “You are not hidden” and “You’re not defenseless,” promising shelter and armor. The voice in the lyric hears a whisper “underneath your breath” and an “SOS,” and answers with a promise to send out an army to find the person in the darkest night.
The chorus is a plain repeated vow, “It’s true, I will rescue you.” The bridge extends the picture of persistence: “I will never stop marching to reach you in the middle of the hardest fight.” No distance is too great to be covered.
The song reads as God’s promise spoken to the hurting. It is close to Psalm 34:17-18, which says the Lord hears the cry of the righteous and is near to the brokenhearted, and to Luke 19:10, where the Son of Man comes to seek and save the lost. It also echoes Psalm 46:1 on God as a refuge.
