O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
Come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him, born the King of angels;

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation;
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God, all glory in the highest;

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus, to Thee be glory given;
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing.

Meaning & Inspiration
O Come All Ye Faithful is an invitation to approach Bethlehem with joy and worship Christ. The opening gathers the faithful around the newborn King, while the refrain answers that sight with repeated adoration. Its language follows the nativity account closely: angels announce glory to God, worshipers go to behold the child, and heaven and earth join in praise. The repetition gives the carol a communal character without shifting attention away from Jesus.
The final verse identifies Christ as the Word of the Father appearing in flesh, an image that directly echoes John 1:14. That confession expands the Bethlehem scene beyond celebration of a birth by naming the child as the incarnate Word who deserves glory. Luke’s account of the shepherds going to Bethlehem and the angels praising God also illuminates the song’s movement from invitation to proclamation. Throughout the carol, joy leads naturally to adoration of Christ the Lord.
