About Zach Williams

Zach Williams is a Christian rock singer-songwriter who has built a career on songs of faith and redemption. Born Zachary Stephen Williams on June 27, 1978, in Pensacola, Florida, and raised in Jonesboro, Arkansas, he first made music as the lead vocalist for the Southern rock band Zach Williams & The Reformation from 2007 to 2012. After that chapter ended, he served as a worship leader at the Refuge Campus of Central Baptist Church in his hometown of Jonesboro from 2014 to 2017.

Williams signed with Provident Label Group's Essential Records as a solo artist in 2016. His debut solo single, "Chain Breaker," quickly became a hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart. The song’s title track anchored his first solo album, Chain Breaker (2016), which won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album in 2018. The single “Chain Breaker” was later certified Platinum by the RIAA. He followed with the album Rescue Story in 2019, which included the single “There Was Jesus,” a duet with Dolly Parton. That song earned Williams his second Grammy—Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song in 2021—and was certified Gold. Other popular singles in his catalog include “Fear Is a Liar,” “Old Church Choir,” and “Less Like Me.”

In 2020, Williams received the GMA Dove Award for Songwriter of the Year (Artist). Now based in Nashville, he released the album A Hundred Highways in 2022. In 2024, he published a memoir titled Rescue Story: Faith, Freedom, and Finding My Way Home, reflecting on his personal journey from a band frontman to a leading voice in contemporary Christian music.
