Lyrics
Verse 1 (Kirk Franklin)
I find myself lying to myself more and more
I'm so confused, what do I do?
I do what's wrong instead of right, and every night
I'm back to You, with my back to You
These devils try to break me down
And when I try to pray, can Heaven still hear what I say?
I lose hope, hope in You
But I keep it to myself 'cause no one cares what you go through
But my hope is that You
That You see me for my heart, and You don't judge me for my truth
Hope is You
Pre-Chorus
See us, free us
Love us, not judge us
We're broken, Yah, we're broken
Yah, come pull us through, hope is You
Chorus
Oh my, oh my, oh my, hope is in You
Oh my, oh my, oh my, hope is in You
Oh my, oh my, oh my, hope is in You
My hope is in You
Verse 2 (Davido)
I give my all to You, I'm holding on to You
Whenever I struggle in my hustle, You're my bubble
When I don't know what to do, I'm, I'm looking to You

Meaning & Inspiration
"Hope In You" opens with open confession: "I find myself lying to myself more and more." The first verse admits doing "what's wrong instead of right," feeling that Heaven may not hear, and hiding the struggle because "no one cares what you go through." Against that, it holds onto the claim that God sees "my heart" and does not "judge me for my truth," concluding "Hope is You."
The pre-chorus is a plea made on behalf of many: "See us, free us / Love us, not judge us," and the chorus repeats "hope is in You" as a statement of where trust rests. The second verse shifts voice and language, mixing English with Yoruba and Nigerian Pidgin, with the phrase "Hallelujah meje meje" and a declaration of giving "my all." The bridge widens the prayer to "Your people hurting" and asks God to "Open up the heavens."
The pairing of struggle and hope parallels Psalm 42:5, and the line about doing wrong instead of right resembles Romans 7:15.
