STORY BEHIND THE BLESSING SONG:
Kari Jobe, Pst. Chris and Pst. Steven of Elevation worship got together on a Thursday just to go in the presence of God putting together lyric and melody. A couple of hours into it, the presence of God brought everything to a halt and that is when the writing the Blessing song was born. Straight from scripture (Numbers Chapter 6) and from the heart of the Father over us as His kings. Singing this song as a blessing over you and your family, your children and your generations. The song aims to turn the hearts people to receive blessings from heaven. Even in the midst of a pandemic such as COVID-19 God still commands blessings over our lives. Churches all over the world have joined in The Blessing song: The UK Blessing, The Hawaii Blessing, The Blessing South Africa among others.

Meaning & Inspiration

When Elevation Worship, Kari Jobe, and Cody Carnes gathered back in the spring of 2020, they crafted something that felt less like a song and more like a liturgy. Released on March 6, 2022, as The Blessing - Single, this track bypassed the usual industry hype because it wasn't really trying to be a hit. It was trying to be a prayer. The lyrics pull directly from the priestly benediction found in Numbers 6:24-26, where the Lord instructs Moses to place His name upon the people. By singing these words, we aren't just reciting poetry; we are participating in an ancient, covenantal act of speaking God's protection and favor over one another.

There is something startling about the simplicity here. We live in an age that demands complexity, yet this song strips everything away to focus on the posture of God toward His children. When we sing, The Lord turn His face toward you, we are acknowledging a God who is not distant or hidden. He is attentive. He is present. It mirrors the intimate reality that in Christ, the veil is torn and we are invited to stand in the light of His countenance. His favor isn't just for us in the here and now; the lyrics emphasize a blessing spanning a thousand generations, reflecting the promise in Deuteronomy 7:9 that God keeps His covenant of love for a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments. This shifts our perspective from our own temporary struggles to the vast, unfolding narrative of God’s faithfulness to our families.

The bridge transitions from the corporate blessing of the congregation to a deeply personal assurance of God's omnipresence. We see the influence of Psalm 139, where the writer admits there is nowhere he can go to escape God's Spirit. Whether we are in the weeping or the rejoicing, the declaration He is for you acts as a theological anchor. We often mistake our circumstances for God's attitude, but this song corrects that drift. Romans 8:31 asks the defining question of our faith: If God is for us, who can be against us? When you belt out those words, you are rejecting the lie that your current struggle indicates God has turned His back on you. It is a bold, defiant stance against fear. This isn't a wishful thought or a nice sentiment to make us feel better; it is a confession of the character of a God who went to the cross precisely because He is for you. When we claim these promises, we stop looking at our own strength and start resting in the reality that the Creator of the universe is actively working, hovering, and standing beside us in every single season. That truth changes everything.
