Meaning & Inspiration
“Nasara” by Kaestrings is a victory song sung in Hausa with English lines beside it. The refrain says, “If not for the Lord who was on our side, tomorrow would have been too late, but He has given us victory.” The Hausa word nasara means victory, and the English chorus simply says, “We have the victory.”
The structure is short and repeated: the first part states the debt to the Lord, the second part repeats the line about victory several times, and the bridge and vamp stay with that one claim. Repetition lets the song grow from a verse into a congregational shout of thanks.
The opening lines are close to Psalm 124:1-3, which says that if the Lord had not been on our side, the enemy would have overcome us. The victory theme is also close to 1 Corinthians 15:57 and Romans 8:37. The tone is bold and grateful, and the wording is made for call-and-response.
