You're my life, my light, my all
I live because of You

You're the reason why I live
And move and have my being
Every day I see new mercies
From You, Lord

But for Your love for my life
I won't be here today

Every day I see new mercies
From You, Lord

Meaning & Inspiration
“The Reason Why I Live” by Dr Paul Enenche is a song of personal devotion. The verses call God “my life, my light, my all” and say the singer lives because of Him, having been bought with His blood and belonging to Him alone. The second verse looks around at the singer’s life and sees God’s faithfulness, adding that without His love the singer would not be here today.
The chorus takes its wording from Acts 17:28, “in him we live, and move, and have our being,” and joins it to a line about seeing new mercies every day. That second line recalls Lamentations 3:22-23, which says the Lord’s mercies are new every morning.
The redemption language in the opening verse is close to 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, which says believers were bought with a price. The song is a plain, thankful confession that life, purpose, and daily mercy all come from God, repeated so a congregation can make it their own.
