Meaning & Inspiration
I keep thinking about the line where they say "you shall not die but live." It’s straight from Psalm 118, and hearing it feels like a heavy weight being lifted, especially when you’re going through a hard season. It’s comforting to hold onto that promise that God is a God of life. But then I get stuck on the idea of a "heavy downpour of favor" being guaranteed for today. I wonder if I’m reading too much into it, or if it’s just a bit too easy to equate God’s presence with an immediate end to our pain. Scripture does talk about God’s favor being like rain, but usually in the context of His grace in the midst of the wilderness, not necessarily because the struggle just disappears.
It feels good to declare those things, but part of me wonders if we’re missing the point of what it actually means to walk with Him when the sky is dry. Does the Spirit only come in a downpour, or is He just as much there in the silence? I like the focus on fresh fire and power, because that’s the kind of thing we see in the New Testament when the believers needed boldness. Yet, I find myself questioning if we focus so much on the feeling of the rain that we forget the purpose behind the storm. It’s hard to reconcile the promise of "not feeling pain anymore" with the reality that we still live in a broken world. Maybe it’s not about the rain stopping the struggle, but about the rain changing our perspective on it? I don’t know. It leaves me wondering if I’m chasing the gift of favor more than the Giver of the grace itself.
