Meaning & Inspiration
“Now That You’re Near” from Hillsong Worship is a song of devotion about nearness to Jesus. The first verse stands before the Lord to give praise and says His love is all the singer needs. The second adds that life belongs to Him because He gave His life, and that His grace is all that is needed. Each verse ends with the same line, “Jesus, you’re all I need.”
The chorus asks to be held in His arms and never let go, and it states a wish to spend eternity with Him. It then describes the result of His closeness: everything is different, the singer is not the same, and life has been changed. The closing lines say that His presence is where the singer wants to stay always.
The themes are close to 2 Corinthians 12:9 on grace, Psalm 16:11 on fullness of joy in His presence, and 2 Corinthians 5:17 on becoming new. The song is plain, personal and easy to sing.
