Meaning & Inspiration
Namba Moja is a Swahili testimony that names Jesus as number one. The chorus repeats "Namba moja," meaning number one, and says that the number one gave life and gave peace. The first verse tells of searching the whole world for wealth, going to traditional healers, climbing mountains and descending valleys without finding it, until coming to the Lord Jesus and finding the wealth of joy in the heart.
The next section lists what Jesus has done: saved, blessed, cared, shown mercy and will never leave, each answered with "namba moja." A later verse says there is none like Him, that He is the same yesterday, today and forever, and asks where those who compared themselves to Him are now. The themes follow Hebrews 13:8, Psalm 86:8, Isaiah 40:25, Psalm 16:11 and Hebrews 13:5. The lively repeated chorus makes it easy to join.
