Lyrics
The air is changing
There's an opening above our heads
There is a bridge
To earth from heaven
And His name is Jesus Jesus
We make way
We make way
For the king of glory to come
Jesus the way
You are the way heaven has come
We make way
We make way
For the king of glory to come
Jesus the way
You are the way heaven has come

Meaning & Inspiration
King of Glory presents the coming of Jesus as heaven drawing near to earth. Its opening images of changing air and an opening overhead create a sense of expectation, while the description of Jesus as the bridge from heaven gives the song a clear center. The repeated declaration that Jesus is the way closely echoes his words in John 14, where access to the Father is identified with him.
The main refrain turns that expectation into an act of welcome. Making way for the King of glory recalls Psalm 24, which calls for the gates to open so that the glorious King may enter. In the song, that biblical image becomes a concise prayer for the presence of Christ. Repetition reinforces the posture of worship without adding competing ideas: Jesus is named as the way, the arriving King, and the means by which heaven has come near. The lyrics therefore join anticipation, surrender, and praise in a simple invitation for Christ to be welcomed and honored.
