Lyrics

So many things that I can say I'm grateful for
There's so much about Him that I truly adore
All I really need is just my memory
To tell ya just how good the Lord has been to me

When I am low
So glad to know that when I need Him
I can go to that embrace
Never alone
I have a very special friend to call my own
And He is always there (He's always there)

Whatever you need Jesus to do (He will) Yeah
He's gonna work it out for you (He will) Yeah, yeah
Lord will never ever fail (He will) No He won't
And in the end He will prevail (He will) Eh

Not tellin' you what I've heard, I'm tellin' you what I know (Jesus)
He specializes in what seems impossible, yeah
I promise you that he will (Never let you go) Never let you go now
That's why I love Him with all of my heart and soul, yeah

When I am low
So glad to know that when I need Him
I can go to that embrace
Never alone
I have a very special friend to call my own (He's mine)
And He is always there (He's always there)

Whatever you need Jesus to do (He will) Eh
He's gonna work it out for you (He will) Yeah, yeah
Lord will never ever fail, no (He will) Oh no He won't
And in the end He will prevail (He will)

When I am low
So glad to know that when I need Him
I can go to that embrace
Never alone
I have a very special friend to call my own
And He is always there (He's always there)

(He will)
Whoa, He will (He will)
He will come through for ya (He will)
Done is so many times before (He will)
Trust in the Lord (He will)
With all your heart (He will)
Please don't leave (He will)
On your own understanding (He will)
But in all of your ways (He will)
Acknowledge God (He will)
And He will direction your path (I know He cares, He'll be right there)
He'll be there (He will)
He has good plans for you (He will)
He'll make a way for you (He will)
You're not (You're not alone, keep holding on)
Oh, keep holdin' on (He will)
Oh, keep holdin' on (He will)
He will ? you through (He will)
I know (I know He cares, He'll be right there)
Only trust Him (He will)
Only trust Him (He will)
He won't let you down (He will) Ah
(You're not alone, keep holding on)
He'll prepare a table (He will)
In front of your enemies (He will)
He'll make a way to your heart (He will)
I know (I know He cares, He'll be right there)
He'll walk with you (He will)
He'll tell you what to do (He will)
He'll take good care of you (He will)
You're not (You're not alone, keep holding on)
Said He will (He will)

Yeah, I know He will
I know, I know He will, yeah
He's been so faithful
He will never let you down, no
He will always be around

He will never let you down
He will always be around
He will never let you down
He will always be around
He will never let you down
He will always be around
He will never let you down
He will always be around

Meaning & Inspiration

Anita Wilson’s "He Will" sits in that precarious space between a Sunday morning declaration and an endurance test. As an editor, I’m looking for the heartbeat, the moment where the song stops being a sequence of notes and becomes an argument.

The repetition in the latter half—that relentless cycle of "He will" calls—is a risk. It threatens to drift into filler, the kind of church-service stalling that happens when the musicians are waiting for the spirit to shift. But in the context of personal faith, maybe that’s the point. Faith isn't a tight, pithy slogan; it’s often just repeating the same promise to yourself until your pulse slows down.

The Power Line here is tucked away in the transition to the bridge: “Not tellin' you what I've heard, I'm tellin' you what I know.”

This is where the song earns its keep. There is a massive, cavernous divide between hearing a theology and possessing a history with God. When Wilson sings this, she isn’t performing; she is testifying. It echoes the posture of the blind man in John 9:25: "Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see." You can argue with a sermon, but you cannot argue with a man’s eyesight. When we strip away the noise of the choir and the organ, we are left with that: the empirical data of our own lives.

But let’s look at the tension. Wilson sings about God being "a very special friend to call my own." It’s an intimate line, but it strikes a nerve. Is He a friend, or is He Lord? We tend to gravitate toward the language of friendship because it's safe—it implies proximity without the demand of submission. Yet, the song leans on the promise of Proverbs 3:5-6, weaving it into the outro: “Please don't lean on your own understanding / But in all of your ways / Acknowledge God.”

That is the rub. It’s easy to sing about God being "a friend" when the bills are paid and the health report is clear. It is much harder to stop leaning on your own understanding when the ceiling feels like it’s collapsing. The song promises He will "prepare a table in front of your enemies," an allusion to Psalm 23, but it leaves us in the middle of the dining room with our adversaries still breathing down our necks.

The song doesn't resolve the situation; it resolves the speaker’s stance. Wilson isn't telling us the trial is over; she’s telling us she’s decided to stay anchored until it is. It's not the most elegant finish, but it’s the most honest one. Sometimes, you just have to say the same thing over and over until you actually believe it again.
