Meaning & Inspiration

Yesu Uinuliwe is a Swahili praise song that calls every living thing to worship and lifts up the name of Jesus. The opening lines say that everything that lives should praise the Lord and that everything with breath should praise Him, a thought taken from Psalm 150:6. The following refrain, "Tumpe sifa na heshima," calls for giving Him praise and honor, and the title means "Jesus be lifted up."

A central section asks who can work miracles, heal diseases, hold a name that breaks the yoke, set free, give strength and raise the dead, and answers each question with "Hakuna kama Wewe," meaning "there is none like You." That reflects Exodus 15:11 and Psalm 86:8 as well as John 11:43-44 and Philippians 2:9-11. The ending promises to dance for Him forever and asks that He be exalted, blessed and praised. Repetitive and energetic, the song is built for a congregation to sing and respond together.
