Meaning & Inspiration
“Still Here (Made It Through It All)” by the Williams Brothers is a gospel testimony of survival. The verses list what the singer has faced: heartaches, troubles, bruises, loneliness, lies, burdens, dark days, and disappointments. After each one the answer is the same: “but I’m still here.”
The refrain credits God: “Through it all I’ve made it through, God kept me here.” A later verse says it is by the grace of God that he is still here, and that he felt God’s presence in his time of need. That idea is close to 1 Corinthians 15:10 and Psalm 46:1.
The long ending is call and response, with the choir answering “I made it” and “I’m still here.” The leader speaks about lying awake in the midnight hour with tears in the eyes, and says God kept His arms around the listener. It is a plain song of gratitude.
