Williams- Brothers

The Williams Brothers are an American traditional black gospel music quartet formed in 1960. The group was founded in Smithdale, Mississippi, by Leon "Pop" Williams. Original members included his brothers Leonard, Douglas, and Melvin Williams, along with Henry Green and Maurice Surrell. The quartet is known for infusing contemporary gospel elements into the traditional quartet tradition.

In 1991, members Melvin Williams, Doug Williams, and Henry Green founded Blackberry Records, the first Black-owned gospel label in Mississippi. The group’s catalog includes songs such as “I’m Just a Nobody,” “Jesus Will Fix It,” “Still Here,” “You Blessed Me Still,” “God Will Deliver,” “This Is Your Night,” and “Still Standing.”

The Williams Brothers have received seven Grammy Award nominations in the Best Traditional Gospel Album category and have won 21 Stellar Awards. They achieved three number-one Billboard Gospel Albums. In 1999, the group was inducted into the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Longtime member Henry Green passed away in February 2024.
