Intro
Yesu nitie nguvu nimalize mwendo salama (x4)
Chorus
Yesu wewe nitie nguvu Baba
nimalize mwendo salama
Yesu nitie nguvu nimalize mwendo salama
Eh Baba, eh Mungu wangu
Nitie nguvu nimalize mwendo salama
Yesu nitie nguvu nimalize mwendo salama
Nilikotoka ni mbali
Niendako karibu kufika
Nimalize mwendo wangu salama
(Yesu nitie nguvu nimalize mwendo salama)
Verse 1
Yesu wee, pigana nao wanaopigana nami
Nitie nguvu ninapoishiwa nguvu
Adui zangu wakitaka kupigana nami
Njia yao iwe giza na utelezi
Wee Baba, mwovu mimi akinijia
Maisha yangu yafiche ubavuni mwako
Verse 2
Wengine walipochoka safarini
Hakuwepo wakuwatia nguvu wakakata tamaa
Yesu wee, nitie nguvu Baba
nimalize mwendo salama
Wengine walipojeruhiwa
Hakuwepo wakuwafunga chela wakafa njiani
Yesu wewe, nifunge chela nikifjeruhiwa
nimalize mwendo salama
Wengine walipojaribiwa walishindwa stahimili
Wakarudi nyuma
Yesu wee, nitie nguvu Baba
nimalize mwendo salama
Verse 3
Na mimi nimetoka mbali
Nimepanda milima nimeruka makorongo
Nimekanyaga miba nimekwepa mishale
Lakini bado sijafika
Yesu nitie nguvu, Yesu nishike mkono
Yesu wee, nitie nguvu Baba
nimalize mwendo salama

Meaning & Inspiration
“Yesu Nitie Nguvu (Nimalize Mwendo Salama)” by William Yilima is a Swahili prayer that means “Jesus, give me strength to finish the race safely.” The refrain is repeated in the opening and again after each verse. The chorus adds that the singer has come from far, is near to arriving, and wants to complete the road well.
The first verse asks Jesus to fight for the singer against those who fight, to give strength when strength runs out, to make the enemy’s path dark and slippery, and to hide the singer’s life at His side. The second verse speaks of others who grew tired on the road or were wounded and gave up, and it asks for strength, bandaging and endurance. The third recalls climbing hills, crossing valleys, stepping on thorns and avoiding arrows, with the ending not yet reached.
The prayer is close to 2 Timothy 4:7, Hebrews 12:1 and Isaiah 40:31. The song is an honest request for strength to endure to the end.
