Meaning & Inspiration
“Even Now” by William McDowell and Tasha Cobbs Leonard is a worship song of expectation. The opening lines announce that “there’s about to be a suddenly in this place” and describe hearing a mighty sound, the rising of faith. The sound and the sense of sudden action are close to Acts 2:2, where a rushing wind fills the room, and to Acts 16:26, where a sudden earthquake opens the prison.
The chorus is a confession in the present tense: “Even now You are moving,” and later, “Even now You are healing” and “Even now You can do it.” The singer does not wait for the answer to arrive before praising. The second verse changes the expectation to a miracle, a promise “to me” that the singer is “gonna see,” ending with “Yes, I believe.”
The bridge states that all things are possible, right here and right now, which echoes Mark 9:23. Most of the lyric is repetition, so it works as a congregational declaration. The message is faith that treats God’s work as already underway.
