Lyrics

Verse 1

I can see you hurting
Somebody broke your heart in two
You don't let it hit the surface
But I know what you're going through

Pre-Chorus

I say, oh
When life's setting all time low
When the house doesn't feel like home
And you got no place to go

Chorus

So baby, let him be your hideaway
You can run to him, it'll be okay
When you lose your way, you're losing faith
Let him be the one that you call on
So baby, let him be your hideaway

Verse 2

I can see you fighting
In a world that don't fight fair
But he'll be right beside you
And always be the answer to your prayer

Pre-Chorus (Repeat)

I say, oh
When life's setting all time low
When the house doesn't feel like home
And you got no place to go

Chorus (Repeat)

So baby, let him be your hideaway
You can run to him, it'll be okay
When you lose your way, you're losing faith
Let him be the one that you call on
So baby, let him be your hideaway

Bridge

There ain't no mountain way too high
Ain't no valley way too low
But he wants you to know

Chorus (Repeat)

So baby, let him be your hideaway
You can run to him, it'll be okay
When you lose your way, you're losing faith
Let him be the one that you call on
So baby, let him be your hideaway

Outro

Your hideaway
Your hideaway

Meaning & Inspiration

“Hideaway” by Tate Butts is addressed to someone who is hurting. The first verse sees a person whose heart has been broken and who does not let it show, and the pre-chorus names the low points: life at an all-time low, a house that does not feel like home, and nowhere to go. The chorus then makes its appeal: “let him be your hideaway… you can run to him, it’ll be okay.”

The second verse says that he “will be right beside you and always be the answer to your prayer,” which sets the song in the language of prayer and trust in God. The bridge adds that no mountain is too high and no valley too low, and that he wants the listener to know it.

The hiding-place image is close to Psalm 32:7, “Thou art my hiding place,” and to Psalm 46:1, where God is a refuge and strength. The song’s message is simple comfort: when life is heavy, there is a place to run.
