Lyrics

Verse 1

I know I mess up all the time
I’ll never be perfect for you, no
Believe and pray that’s all I can right now
Crying for you, waiting for you to come set me free
Heal with me, walk with me, everyday

Pre-Chorus

I’m pushing harder and harder, it’s not working
Hear me one more time Holy Spirit.

Chorus

Holy spirit be my friend all the time
Lover of my soul rescue me
Oh Lord touch me oh Lord, Oh Lord touch me oh Lord

Verse 2

Here I am, back again – can you see me?
Say a word, I believe I’ll be changed
I need another chance, would you be my God
I lost my way; come take me back
I wanna sing my song: Hallelujah
Help me please, sing with me – Hallelujah

Pre-Chorus

I’m pushing harder and harder, it’s not working
Hear me one more time Holy Spirit.

Chorus

Holy spirit be my friend all the time
Lover of my soul rescue me
Oh Lord touch me oh Lord, Oh Lord touch me oh Lord

Pre-Chorus

I’m pushing harder and harder, it’s not working
Hear me one more time Holy Spirit.

Chorus

Holy spirit be my friend all the time
Lover of my soul rescue me
Oh Lord touch me oh Lord, Oh Lord touch me oh Lord

Meaning & Inspiration

“Holy Spirit Be My Friend” by Meddy is a prayer of honest need. The verse admits, “I know I mess up all the time, I’ll never be perfect for you,” and says that all the singer can do right now is believe and pray. The pre-chorus names the effort and the failure, “I’m pushing harder and harder, it’s not working,” and asks the Holy Spirit to hear once more.

The chorus turns to a request for friendship and rescue: “Holy Spirit be my friend all the time, lover of my soul, rescue me.” The second verse comes back to repentance, asking for a word to change the singer, another chance, and a return after losing the way, and it ends with a Hallelujah.

The Spirit as a constant companion is close to John 14:16-17, the weakness before prayer recalls Romans 8:26, and the desire to return echoes Psalm 51:10-12. The tone is humble, repetitive, and prayerful.
