Meaning & Inspiration
Freedom Looks Good On You is a celebratory worship song about leaving bondage behind. The opening verse asks God to take the singer from where he or she is into the promised land and promises to follow wherever He goes, asking Him to break off yesterday and praying for brighter days. The chorus says the chains are gone, the old self is gone, fear has been replaced by perfect love, and this is the singer's exodus.
The long bridge turns into a call-and-response, inviting the whole room to try freedom on and to lift a sound of freedom, joy, victory and triumph, opening with "Let the redeemed of the Lord say." The themes echo Galatians 5:1 on standing in the freedom Christ gives, 2 Corinthians 5:17 on a new creation, 1 John 4:18 on perfect love casting out fear, and Psalm 107:2 on the redeemed saying so.
