Meaning & Inspiration

Jesus Saves is a joyful gospel choir song built on the news that Jesus saves. The first verse calls for spreading the tidings all around, and the second tells liars and cheaters not to leave, but to go and bring a friend or neighbor with the word that He saves. The chorus declares that He saves to the utmost and will pick people up and turn them around, with hallelujahs.

The idea of saving to the utmost comes from Hebrews 7:25, the spreading of the news fits Mark 16:15 and Romans 10:14-15, and the picture of being turned around recalls Acts 3:19. Vamps with parts for sopranos, altos and tenors show that the song is arranged for a gospel choir, and the repeated hallelujahs give it a lively, celebratory close.
