About Kurt Carr
Kurt Carr is a gospel music composer, producer, and worship leader known for blending traditional gospel with elements of R&B, jazz, soul, and classical music. He was born on October 12, 1964, in Hartford, Connecticut, and studied classical voice and piano at the University of Connecticut, earning a fine arts degree. From the late 1980s until 1991, Carr served as the musical director for gospel legend Rev. James Cleveland.
Carr founded the ensemble known as The Kurt Carr Singers and served as the director of the West Los Angeles Church of God in Christ Choir. He later became the Creative Director of Worship at The Fountain of Praise in Houston, Texas. His recorded songs include “The Presence of the Lord Is Here,” “In the Sanctuary,” “For Every Mountain,” “I Almost Let Go,” and “God Blocked It.” He has released albums such as Awesome Wonder, Bless Somebody Else, and Serious About It! The album Awesome Wonder earned RIAA Gold certification.
Carr’s contributions to gospel music have been recognized with 10 Stellar Awards, 1 GMA Dove Award, the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award from the Stellar Awards, and the BMI Trail Blazer Award. He was also inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
