About Hillsong Young And Free
Hillsong Young & Free was a contemporary worship and Christian EDM group formed in 2012 in Sydney, Australia. The collective was established as the youth worship team within Hillsong Church, with founding pastors Peter Toganivalu and Laura Toggs. The group’s musical style incorporated pop and electronic production, a departure from the guitar-centric sound of other Hillsong extensions, and it aimed to connect younger demographics with Christian music through a contemporary sound.
The group released its first live album, We Are Young & Free, in 2013, followed by the EP This Is Living in 2015. A second live album, Youth Revival, arrived in 2016, and the studio album III was released in 2018. Later releases included the live album All of My Best Friends (2020) and the EP Out Here on a Friday Where It Began (2021). Multiple albums, including We Are Young & Free and Youth Revival, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Christian/Gospel Albums chart.
Hillsong Young & Free received two Grammy Award nominations. Youth Revival was nominated for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in 2017, and All of My Best Friends received the same nomination at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2021. The group became inactive following the departure of its founding pastors in 2023.
