Meaning & Inspiration
“Bulie” by Preye Odede is a worship song that mixes Igbo and English, with the English glosses printed in the lyric. “Eze ndi Eze” is given as “King of all kings,” and “Idighi agbanwo agbanwe” as “You can never change.” The first verse says that without God’s grace the singer would have been lost and gone, and that the reason for being alive is simply to worship Him.
The call-and-response chorus adds “Ocean divider” and “Odigi onye dika gi,” glossed as “who is there like unto thee?”, which is close to Exodus 15:11 and its song after the crossing of the sea. The second verse says words are not enough to express gratitude for what God has done, and repeats “I will never forget” how He raised the singer up, wiped away tears, and brought him through.
The ending, “Bulie,” is glossed as “lift him,” and calls on everyone to lift the King of glory. The song’s themes are close to Malachi 3:6, Psalm 24:7-10, and Revelation 19:16. Its message is worship that remembers, and gratitude for an unchanging God.
