Lyrics
Your head is like the finest gold
Your leadership is perfect
Great and marvelous are Your works
King of the saints
You know the best way
Great and marvelous are Your works
King of the saints
You know the best way
This is my Beloved
This is my Friend
Jesus, I love you Jesus
I find that i am loving You
More than my own life
To the One who washed me with His blood
King of my soul
You are my first love
To the One who washed me with His blood
King of my soul
You are my first love
I fear nothing but Your name
I choose you this day
You will be praised

Meaning & Inspiration
“Jesus the Beloved” gathers biblical images into a direct expression of adoration. The description of Christ’s head as finest gold and the declaration, “This is my Beloved, this is my Friend,” closely echo the poetic language of Song of Songs. Other lines praise his works, kingship, wisdom, and saving blood. Together, these images present Jesus as beautiful, trustworthy, and worthy of first place in the worshiper’s life.
The song also moves from description to personal devotion. Love for Jesus is portrayed as greater than attachment to life itself, while the title “King of my soul” expresses willing allegiance. References to being washed by his blood recall New Testament praise for Christ’s redemptive work. The closing resolve to fear his name, choose him, and praise him gives the lyric the character of a vow. Its worship is therefore both affectionate and reverent, joining intimate language about the Beloved with declarations about the sovereign King.
