Meaning & Inspiration
We Bring The Sacrifice Of Praise is a short song built on the biblical image of praise as an offering. The refrain says that praise is brought to the house of the Lord, and the second part offers up sacrifices of thanksgiving and of joy. A Swahili line in the lyrics, "Sadaka za sifa," gives the same idea in another language, translating roughly as offerings of praise.
The language comes from Hebrews 13:15, which describes a continual sacrifice of praise, and Psalm 107:22 and Psalm 27:6 on offerings of thanksgiving and joy. Leviticus 7:12 and Psalm 116:17 also link thanksgiving with offering. Because the lyrics are brief and repetitive, the song suits an offering time or an opening call to worship, and the congregation can sing it from memory almost at once. Its tone is simple, grateful and reverent.
